I've been trying to get back into some writing lately, but haven't know whether to concentrate on fiction or non-fiction. Plus, I spend so much of my day at work writing in a "brand-friendly" way that by the time I get home it's kind of like no brain cells left my own writing.

I think I should spend sometime looking for writing prompts or recommitting myself to my 10 minute prompts.

The Emmys kind of suck tonight. Bleh. Why do they let Ryan Seacrest host anything like this? They need someone with a discernible talent besides being a tool to host shows like this.

I'm leaving for Florida in the morning. Screw midterms. My grandpa fell down today and couldn't get up. They took him to the hospital and found out he has a very bad flu which may have caused him to have a second stroke. My grandma is down at their winter condo by herself so my aunt and I are flying down tomorrow to be with them.

every time I lay down, my coughing gets worse. I hate being sick. I haven't been this sick with an ear infection in years.

The good hour I had today was when Jinnie, Karen, and Jen called. Then I fell alseep and left my AIM open so kept hearing that annoying noise. And now I'm up for another half hour at least waiting for my decongestant to kick.

Basically I'm whining because I hate being sick. I don't know how I'll make it through class.

What a romantic way to spend Valentine's Day. Hee--I just thought of that now.

Long weekend...

This weekend was supposed to be a relaxing week up north for me and three friends, but a snowstorm decided to come through on Saturday. We went south instead to one friend's apartment, and it took five hours to drive home, which is normally a almost-2 hour drive because of icy road conditions.

I'm catching up with e-mail, etc. I feel so deprived after two days without the Internet.

Football crack...

Yay for my Vikings! Culpepper is the best quarterback in the NFL right now, and wow we had a defense today. Five turnovers by the Titans but not one touchdown. Oh, I miss you, you old man kicker Gary Anderson. I love the old man kickers. I think we play NY Giants next week at home--hopefully you'll be back in full force, Mr. Moss. We missed you today, but who knew we could carry the football so well. So proud of our gameball rookie running back!

Maybe if Favre and his Packers had played like they are in this weeks first half they wouldn't be 2-4! Because you know--we're #1 in the NFC now with a one game lead at 5-1.

Hey Denni Green--how's life down in Arizona? Ha--I love Mike Tice. So glad you're gone, Mr. Green!

Football=crack. I can't watch the baseball tonight either--Cards need to win and really don't need to sit through Bennifer Part Deux again. Not that I don't wish Miss Garner the best, but I like my sports and Hollywood couples I avoid separate. I did like Dogma--that was a good movie. Everything Affleck did after that, not so much. It is funny to watch people go crazy about it though on the different boards.

I need to write a paper and life sucks because I can't do it. Can.not.do.it.

Dear NFL,

Football is my crack, and you are my supplier. You should be ashamed of yourself!

Sincerely, Lisa

I went to lunch with the family at a sports bar, and they had four NFL games on at once. We were there for two hours--had the pleasure of watching the Packers self-destruct. That's always fun, but I may eat my word as my own Vikes have a tendency to do the same thing after a good game the week before.

I have to write a lexicon that I'm avoiding like the plague. Oh, and Jen, I hope you finished your paper alright. Persecute, remember? ;)

"John Kerry unveiled his newest campaign slogan: 'A mind is a terrible thing to make up."'

That was in the monologue last night, and since I'm neither Democrat or Republican, I have the right to enjoy jokes at either of the candidates' expense. Besides, Leno was dead on with that one.

So third week of school, too much to do and too little time. I'm off for my second group project of the week. I'm still pissed because my tape at the Joey ep last week. Oh well, no new shows for me this fall I guess.

So I had typed up this whole long entry about what a hell of a strange day I have had, and then I looked at the clock. It's officially September 11th here now, and I erased everything that I was going to post.

Thinking about 9/11 still makes me cry. We had a really nice memorial service today on campus.

My thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the vicitms who died in New York, DC, and on those planes. My prayers are with our entire country today.

A little bit of everything...

This is my second night in a row working overnight. I am done working in about an hour and the little charges are sleeping soundly, so here I sit with nothing to do.

This week was extremely busy, but surprisingly pleasant. A guy from school called completely out of the blue last Monday and asked me out to dinner. Now said guy is a Marine who happens to be leaving in two weeks to train on the East Coast for six months. Now Mr. Marine and myself were hanging out a lot at the end of spring semester but never really pursued anything because of his leaving at the end of August. Now, it's the end of August and we are going out again. Nothing good can come of this, I keep telling myself. But he's so nice, and it's been a long time since I've been out on an actual date. And he paid for supper! That's a big plus in my book. I guess we'll see what happens in the next two weeks--one of which I will be out of town for.

On a completely unrelated note, online fandoms are a weird, weird place. Okay, the Alias fandom is the only fandom I am active in because it was the first time I met a number of funny, caring, and intellegent people who aren't afraid to dive into the gutter now and then. But I always maintained a strick lurker mode at all the Buffyverse boards I belong to. So today was the epitome of weirdness. Buffy/Angel fans (Bangels) and Spike/Buffy fans (Spuffys) were just going at each other all over the online fandom, saying nasty and incoherant accusations that made absolutely no sense

I am just absolutely shocked and saddened right now. I've been working so much that I haven't been around to return e-mails or check my voice mail, so I was surprised when a friend from college called from out of state. She called to tell me that I needed to go look at the website of our university. It turns out one of our fellow students, and someone I had known fairly well, was killed Sunday in a car accident.

Wow, I can't even process this. He was a great guy--he was always laughing and tossing a football around. He was going into his last year of his undergrad studies in a little over three weeks when we went back to school. They are having a service tomorrow so I had to call and take off work like ten minutes ago. No wonder my phone has been ringing off the hook.

Just got off the phone with my father and he has finished the first leg of their five day ride. He's tired from an apparent motel and food delay they had last night. They rode 82 miles today, and have about 60 or more tomorrow. I'm glad he's still alive after the fairly warm today.

I'm attempting to open my mind and watch the Democratic National Convention. My first time voting for a president is fast approaching and I figure I should be aware of both sides. If I see a Clinton I will run though. I have certain limitations coming from the conservative family I do.

I had breakfast with my uncle this morning and we got to talking about Alias. He's the only other person in my family who watchs the show besides me. He was talking about how he hadn't watch the season finale even though it was taped and sitting on top of his television set. He said he just couldn't get as involved with the stories and characters this last season. He's a Chevy too! He hates that "boring as hell" wife. He didn't know about the delay until January until I told him though! I felt bad for him but it made me concerned about Alias losing viewers from the delay. Oh well, there's not much to do about it.

Observe my bitter rantings...

Well, I'm not really bitter and these aren't exactly rantings. For those non-Buffy people, that was just my little homage to my second favorite Buffyverse character ever, Anya. Quote from episode First Date season seven.

On to actual issues--I just got home from work again today which was a long day after an even longer day yesterday. I took my two little charges to an amusement park yesterday and overall ended up working for 10 or so hours when I was supposed to work about six. My two little charges decided their new favorite game was to yell very loudly in crowds "Mommy, I love you!" and wrap themselves around my legs. Now I know that girls have children young quite a bit, but these two little rascals are six and four so I would have been fourteen when I had the first one. Which gets you quite the judgemental looks in public, I must say. Plus they know it totally embarasses me. Mothers are angels, I swear.

This afternoon was spent helping my father get together his poor cluttered sense and brain. Tomorrow morning he is leaving to participate in the MSTram Bike Tour (Multiple Sclerosis: The Ride Across Minnesota) which is sponsored and organized by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. This is a five day ride across our state to raise money for research for MS. I am so proud of my father for doing this and all the money he has raised through his sponsorships. This is the first time that he has done the ride, but he has biked for well over 35 years now. My mother and father used to take organized biking tours of Europe before and after I was born, and my father even rides a 20 year old bike he built himself. A friend of our family has been living with MS for 25 years and my father will be riding in his honor.

My dad is upset because he is leaving at six am tomorrow and it's the last day of the Tour de France, which as can be imagined, he is a huge groupie of. He has been running around crazily today, and told him: "Daddy, don't worry. You can just set the VCR and watch it when you get home." And he looks at me and tells me he doesn't know how to set the VCR. For an engineer, he is kind of bad with basic appliances like alarm clocks and VCR/DVDs.

My last thought--maybe I do have some bitter rantings. MGD is doing a commentary on the S3 DVDs, and she is the only other cast member besides Jennifer Garner. WTF is that about? I wasn't planning to buy the damn things before, but I certainly won't even plan on renting them now. What is she going to blather on about for a whole episode? The mind boggles.

I'm realizing that my disdain for the third season of Alias is rising to the levels (or maybe that is sinking to the depths) that I harbor for the sixth season of Buffy. That is quite a feat to accomplish. Seasons where character assasination ran rampant, bad acting and explotiation were the norm. Actually the acting in Buffy wasn't bad--it just wasn't excellent like the other seasons. I think I'll go watch some Buffy S5 DVDs since I don't have to work at all until tomorrow afternoon.

My Life: A Comedy of Errors

It was my mother's 51st birthday yesterday. Which in my family, a birthday means like a three day or more event. Sunday was my only day off for the next week for work, so I was planning to just relax at home. However, those plans were ruined when my mother's sister, husband, and two children showed up announced. This is common, but not entirely welcomed event by me. The adults decided to fire up the grill, and somehow I end up watching and/or entertaining my two cousins. I love them to death, but entertaining children is what I do for my job--it wasn't how I wanted to spend my one day off. So my aunt and uncle were over until almost 11 pm. There was BBQ and then a whole big todo about a Dairy Queen cake, which is not that enjoyable for me when you consider I'm lactose intolerant and gave up ice cream completely over a year ago.

So I worked for four hours on Monday morning, and then we were going to this really nice restaurant for my mom's birthday with my parents, my older sis, and her brand new fiance. The place we were eating at was a really nice place that we had been only once before. I mean nice, like dressing up quite a bit nice. Well, supper hadn't even started yet, we had only ordered our drinks and everything goes horribly wrong. The waiter who was named Nii and the only thing I can think of the whole time he's taking our order is "We are the Knights of Nee! Nee! Nee!" Another random Monty Python reference in life. Well, the waiter brings back the tray of Cokes and dumps them all entirely in my lap. I spent an hour and half sitting through supper with a soaking wet lap, legs, and feet. It was so miserable, and I wasn't going to make everyone leave on account of me because we had all driven in one car. The waiter was going to offer me free ice cream (see earlier reference to the not eating ice cream), and the manager did not even come over to check on the situation. My mom's steak was severely undercooked, and took two trips back to the kitchen to get it to the "well done" status she had ordered. Nevertheless, supper for my mom and me ended up being free, and we found a new restaurant we won't be going back to anytime soon.

And then last night I'm getting into bed at about 1:30 and I see this huge spider on my wall. Okay, not many animals freak me out--I used to have a weird obsession with snakes growing up. But insects and crawly bug type things give me the creeps. And at the top of that list is spiders. I try to kill it but freak out. I then run up the stairs, wake my father up--he comes down, tries to kill but it gets away, and I refuse to sleep in my room. Today I cleaned and vaccumed my entire room from top to bottom but there was no sign of the buggar. I'm sleeping on the couch tonight again, but that's because I'm to exhausted to put my clean bedding back on my bed. Icky spider.

I have to take my two little charges to an amusement park on Thursday if it doesn't rain without anyone else. I am not really looking forward to that. Wow, the last three days have been something. But I did manage to get the correct Lord of the Rings movie this time.

Stupid things happen to me for no reason...

So I stop by the video store on my way home tonight and rent the Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. Haven't seen it yet, very excited to see it because I just finished reading the trilogy a week ago. I get home, put in the DVD, get comfortable with the popcorn and The Two Towers starts playing. They put the Two Towers in the Return of the King holder. I am so getting my money back tomorrow. What a day.

:sings: I'm in the money...

So I just got back from my financial aid appointment, and I am so unbelievably relieved. Both of my scholarships are guarenteed for this year! I have that in writing too! I am so incredibly pissed because I found out the cause of all my money drama lately, and it's so stupid I just can't believe it. This month my school changed from a "college" into a "university." However, all my paperwork and applications had been filed under the label of college, but they were processing everything with the label "university." Their computer system denied my applications because it didn't think my school existed! That's a bunch of bull shit. I've been running around like a chicken with my head cut of for three weeks thinking I had lost a good chunk of the money that was going to help get me through the school year with a lesser amount of loans. I've been on the phones to the school, the scholarship program, and my bank for hours on end trying to figure out what was causing the problem because I knew it wasn't on my end. My GPA, my employment status, and my full time student standing had not changed--and those were the only qualifications for the scholarships.

Not that I'm complaining too much...I am really glad that everything is taken care of now and that I don't have to come up with this money in two months. Now I don't have to worry about my first six months of rent either! Happy happy joy joy...

Congrats to Jennifer Garner and Victor Garber on their Emmy noms. I'm surprised that Alias got as many as they did (8)--probably as suprised as Melissa George that she didn't get nominated. Snerk. And that little article from JJ yesterday? I know I'm in the vast minority who didn't have their JJ love restored but I yell a resounding "Duh!" in his general direction. Joss Whedon has made me far too cynical for my own good.

I have my money!

Random thought of the day...

I don't like ABC, and I don't watch any other programming of theirs besides Alias. Now I am mildly interested in JJ's new pilot Lost this fall, but I have major residual resentment towards Mr. Abrams from the mess he made (or was a part of a least) this past season. I also really hate the sound of the Desperate Housewives. But then today I was watching E! News Live and I found out something I didn't want to know. Jamie Denton is going on this series! I almost have to watch now. He was credited as "James Denton" which kind of cracked me up. Mr. Denton was a former castmate of The Pretender which was my favorite show for four years, plus he's particularly attractive as well

I don't watch to watch ABC--not until January when Alias returns. I got a new icon too! Westley from the The Princess Bride. I adore that movie.
